Original Oratory

Description of Original Oratory (OO)

Students deliver a self-written, ten-minute persuasive speech on a topic of their choosing. Limited in their ability to quote words directly (no more than 150 words), competitors craft an argument using evidence, logic, and emotional appeals. Topics range widely, address a societal problem, and are persuasive in nature. The speech is delivered from memory. The speech should reflect the performer. It must be written in the current competition year.
