1. Integrity and Honesty
Expectation: Student leaders must exhibit honesty and integrity in all actions and decisions.
Expectation: Engage in competitions with honesty and integrity. Demonstrate the level of integrity we wish all teammates and participants to participate with.
Consequences
First Offense: Verbal warning and discussion on the importance of honesty in leadership with a coach. Depending on severity, parent(s) may be notified.
Second Offense: Written warning and parent will be notified. Depending on severity, administration may be notified.
Third Offense: Removal from the leadership position.
Cheating: Any evidence of cheating on the team or in class will be reported to Administration and if found to be true will result in immediate removal from leadership
Competition Integrity: knowingly, engaging in any form of deception, misrepresentation, or dishonesty in your written cases or your speeches as well as during a competition will result in immediate removal from leadership.
2. Respect for Others
Expectation: Leaders must treat team members, coaches, guests, teachers, and staff with respect and kindness, fostering an inclusive environment. This also includes fellow competitors and coaches from other schools. Address any concerns related to harassment or discrimination immediately with the coach and LCHS administration.
Expectation: Bring any disputes or issues to the coach/advisory teacher to determine the best path towards resolution. If a disagreement arises, seek resolution through dialogue, rather than through confrontational or disruptive behavior.
Consequences
First Offense: Verbal warning and apology to affected parties
Second Offense: Written apology to affected parties and temporary suspension from leadership duties. Depending on severity, administration may be notified.
Third Offense: Removal from the leadership position
Harassment &/or Discrimination: Any member of leadership reported to have participated in any form of harassment or discrimination, in person or on-line, will be reported to Administration. If found to be true, it will result in immediate removal from leadership, and, depending on the severity, possible removal from the team.
3. Responsibility and Accountability
Expectation: Leaders must take responsibility for their actions and fulfill all assigned duties in a timely and efficient manner. If students have a difference of opinion they may express and discuss with the coach(es), but once the coach(es) makes a decision the time for discussion is over.
Consequences
First Offense: Verbal warning and a meeting with an advisor to review expectations.
Second Offense: Written warning and parent notified.
Third Offense: Removal from the leadership role
4. Commitment to the Role
Expectation: Leaders must actively participate in all meetings, events, and activities, and serve as role models for their peers. If unable to attend some calendared event, the Head Coach must be notified ahead of time.
Expectation: Come well-prepared for each practice and tournament, including researching topics thoroughly, practicing speeches, and have a clear understanding of how you plan to teach debate and speech formats
Consequences
First Offense: Verbal warning and a discussion about commitment with the leadership advisor.
Second Offense: Written warning and parent notified.
Third Offense: Removal from the leadership role.
6. Adherence to School Policies
Expectation: Leaders must follow all school rules and regulations as listed in the La Cueva and APS Handbook..
Consequences
First Offense: Verbal warning and review of school policies
Second Offense: Written warning and parents and administration notified.
Third Offense: Removal from the leadership role.
Egregious breaking of LCHS/APS policies: will be reported to administration and if found to be true, will result in immediate removal from leadership and depending on severity removal from the team.
7. Collaboration and Teamwork
Expectation: Leaders should work effectively with others, valuing different perspectives, building up those they serve, and contributing to team success.
Consequences
First Offense: Verbal warning and team-building activity for leadership planned by the student for the next leadership meeting. Verbal apology to those who may have been affected.
Second Offense: Parents notified and written apology to those who are affected and a 10 min Original Oratory speech written then given to the entire team of the importance of working together and valuing other members of the team who may see things different than you.
Third Offense: Loss of leadership role
Harassment &/or Discrimination: Any member of leadership reported to have participated in any form of harassment or discrimination, in person or on-line, will be reported to Administration. If found to be true, it will result in immediate removal from leadership, and, depending on the severity, possible removal from the team.
