Procedure & Rules
One judge will view six "flights" of CIDNI in a single round. A flight consists of two students from different schools competing against each other in a "cold-read-off".
Each flight should enter separately and should not watch each other. Non-CIDNI competitors are welcome to watch.
The judge will confirm the codes & names of the two students, and will hand them each a copy of the same script, each script has lines for one of the characters highlighted.
The judge will start a 30 second timer while the competitors scan the script.
When the timer goes off, and competitors confirm the judge is ready, they start reading their parts.
Competitors should not touch each other or make eye contact, as per duo interpretation rules.
Once the script is done being read, students exit the room, and the next flight of competitors shall enter.
Judges will enter a winner as per a debate ballot.
Judging criteria:
In each flight, which of the two students presented the most engaging, interesting, fun, and/or nuanced character? If you were a casting director and could only hire one of the students, which one gets the call-back?
Determining the winner:
CIDNI will consist of a randomly paired round 1, and subsequent rounds will be power-matched.
Students from the same school MAY be paired to compete against each other if these are the majority of students in a bracket.
Depending on entry numbers, we may run a quick semi-final and finals if needed.
